On your mark, get set, go! This year’s summer camp, our first since 2016, was new for a lot of people. A new bunch of energetic youth ready to fellowship together and learn from God; a dedicated group of teachers ready to get in the groove and a team of coaches ready to stretch everyone’s fitness.
We took 87 children aged 11 to 16 from the Fountains of Hope School. For most this was their first time ever to attend camps.
This year’s teaching was about God’s Choice. The children learned about various Bible stories when God used someone young to do something great. Like, David and Goliath and Jesus Feeding the five thousand. Later the teams would split and take the teachings to another level by performing a drama about the story they had been taught. The best dramas won points for their teams. It quickly became clear that it was going to be a very competitive week.
Teams also competed in indoor and outdoor games, and a lot of running from one point to another. The biggest highlight was swimming in the afternoons. Everyone was waiting for their turn to dive into the cooling waters.
Another highlight was the kids v staff football game. An elite group of footballers from the kid’s team challenged the not-so-prepared staff for a match. The staff lost terribly 2-0. Staff vowed that next year they will prepare in advance for the rematch.
It was so interesting to see how this new group got on at camps. Seeing their faces and listening to their conversations, you could tell that they were over the moon. Such a holiday with so much fun, food and comfy beds was a dream come true!
On behalf of all the kids at camp, we would like to thank each and every one who contributed to making this year’s camp possible. Thank you.
